Year Three:

In Year Three we have enjoyed studying our Romans topic. We recently visited 'Brigantium' Roman Fort where we spent a day as soldiers conscripted to the Roman Army. It was hard work and our pay was just one dinarius!

Throughout the year we study a variety of topics.

During the autumn term our topic is ‘the Romans’. The children learn how to research historical events using a number of resources including library books, Espresso and the internet. The children are challenged to evaluate the information that they find and discuss its reliability. We visit a reconstruction of a Roman Fort in York and are conscripted into the Roman Legion for the day! We also visit the Museum in Pontefract where we learn about the roll that archaeologists play in uncovering the past!

The spring term is based around the topic of ‘the Victorians’ the children visit Abbey House Museum in Kirkstall and compare and contrast their lives with those of Victorian children. We also study poetry and narrative story writing in Literacy. The children will write e-mails to a poet or author of their choice as part of their I.C.T focus.

Throughout the summer term we consider a variety of environmental issues that affect us in the local area and people throughout the world. We learn how to write letters for various purposes, including letters to persuade manufacturers and shops to consider the amount of unnecessary packaging they use in their products. We also learn about helping plants grow well and have the opportunity to carry out some investigative work into the factors that will affect the growth of plants.

In Year Three I work with Mrs Edgington who is a fantastic Teaching Assistant, together we aim to ensure that all of our children enjoy their learning and reach their full potential!

Thank you

Mr Ferguson.
