Year 6

When children come into Year 6, they have to prepare for two very important things: SATs and moving onto High School.  Year 6 work is very demanding, but at the same time the children manage to have fun and to grow into responsible, trustworthy and mature young people.  They are supported and guided as they strive to reach their full potential, and they take the spirit of St. John’s with them on to their next school.  Here are some of the things we do in Year 6:

  • Residential ~ we spend a week in Wales, taking part in lots of exciting physical and mental challenges.  We learn to ride quad bikes, climb walls, ride a zip wire, create a short film, compose computer generated music, and most importantly, work as a TEAM!
  • Shakespeare ~ we spend some time studying a play in order to perform it, and we also have a trip to the theatre to see how it’s done by the professionals.
  • Sport ~ we represent our school in plenty of sporting competitions and we get chance to play against other Catholic schools in the swimming gala and the quick cricket tournament in the summer.
  • Drama ~ being in Year 6, we have the wonderful opportunity to ‘go out with a bang!’ ~ we say farewell to our school by giving them something special to remember us by, an extremely professional whole school production.
  • Our topic on St. Lucia gives children a chance to work cross-curricular exploring the history, weather, geography, tourism and industry of the island.  We conclude the study by having a ‘Caribbean Day’, where children get to dress, eat, design and make music Caribbean style!
