Year Four:

Throughout Year 4, children are given opportunities to access a wide range of activities which, where appropriate, are linked to a particular theme.

During the Autumn term, the children learn about Ancient Egypt. This year, we explored historical stories from Ancient Egypt in Literacy, solved Egyptian puzzles in Maths and every child made a Sarcophagus in Art. In addition to this, the children conducted some research about the Gods and Goddesses from Ancient Egyptian times and used this to help them to make a puppet show with storywriter Mary Walker.

During the Spring term there are two main themes which lead the planning of the curriculum. Firstly, Hot and Cold. Children learn about temperature and keeping warm in Science. They also explore texts in Literacy from hot and cold places, such as The Ice Palace by Robert Swindells. This year we have also used these stories as a stimulus for our Art work.

The second of the two themes is Improving the Environment. The children investigate noise pollution and waste both in and out of school and think about ways to reduce them. This theme also involves a class outing to a nearby area in need of improvement.

In the Summer term the main theme in Year 4 is the Tudors. Once again, this links closely with the children’s Literacy work as well as providing opportunities to explore Tudor Art. In addition to this, the children are given the opportunity to experience Tudor life on a school trip to Danelaw. Furthermore the PE lessons during this term include a unit of work on Tudor Dance.

Evidence of some of these exciting activities can be seen on the photographs/ class information section. BubbleShare: Share photos - Safe Baby Toys
