Year 5
Children grow and mature considerably when they come into Year 5 and this is a great opportunity to develop their skills across the curriculum. Below are some examples of the opportunities we have in Year 5:
- As part of our Ancient Greek topic, we have a ‘Greek Day’ when the children have the opportunity to taste Greek Food, have a mini-Olympics, dress in Greek clothing and experience aspects of Greek culture (photos attached). Mary Walker, a puppeteer, works with the children making puppets based on the Greek myth The Odyssey;
- Our Keeping Healthy topic gives the children chance to take part in circuit training when we measure the effect of exercise on heart rate and body temperature (photos attached);
- Linked to our Science based topic on Changing Sound, we design and make musical instruments (photos attached);
- Our topic on Water is brought to life when we go on our 3 day residential visit to Keswick. This is a wonderful opportunity for children to see the breathtaking beauty of the Lake District and see how important rivers are in forming the landscape. (Photos attached)
- A class newsletter is attatched to this page.
