‘Key Stage 1 Unit’

Year 1 - Mrs Roose & Year 2 - Miss Wigglesworth

Together, we work very hard to provide our Key Stage 1 children with a fun, enriched curriculum that is enhanced by a wide range of creative opportunities and extra curricular activities.  During the summer of 2006, we worked very hard to combine Year 1 and Year 2 to create the Key Stage 1 Unit.  It is now a unit which contains a wide range of continuous provision working areas that are used to enhance and extend the teaching and learning opportunities that takes place within Key Stage 1.  Below are just a few examples of some of the opportunities we have in the Key Stage 1 Unit:

  • We extend our learning across the curriculum by going on lots of exciting educational visits – have a look at some of the photographs in the gallery.

  • As part of our ‘Famous People & Events’ topic, the real life Florence Nightingale and Samuel Peypes visit our school.

  • Throughout the year we bake and cook lots of scrummy foods, from biscuits and cakes to fruit salad and smoothies.

  • We travel the globe in our ‘Around the World’ topic, learning lots of interesting facts, seeing famous landmarks, painting flags, cooking famous national dishes and much more.

  • Throughout the year we regularly work together to have creative workshops that produce some real Art & DT masterpieces eg: puppets, moving vehicles, moving pictures, playground equipment, fun houses and much more.

  • Science experiments

  • Year 2 take part in ‘Road Safety Training’ to learn how to be safe pedestrians.

  • Music

  • History

There are lots of photographs within the gallery for you to see the wide range of fun continuous provision areas we work in!

We hope you find this information useful and have enjoyed learning about the exciting teaching and learning that takes place in our Key Stage 1 Unit!
